A police officer assigned to the Ferry Police Station in St Catherine was struck by a motor vehicle while on duty along the North South Highway on Friday afternoon.
Loop News understands that the constable was conducting spot checks along the highway, in the vicinity of the Linstead exit ramp, when he was hit by a car.
He reportedly suffered injuries to his head, face, arm and neck, and was rushed to the Linstead Hospital, where he was treated and released.
It is unclear whether charges will be laid against the driver of the car that hit the cop. The police are investigating the incident.
Last year, a police officer assigned to the Clarke’s Town Police Station in Trelawny was killed after being mowed down by a car during a spot check. Inspector Mark Gibbs was among a team of officers conducting spot checks in front the police station, when he signalled a car to stop.
The driver reportedly slowed, as if he were about to stop, then sped up and swerved toward the cop. The inspector tried jumping out the way but it was too late.
