Former MP and State Minister, Marjorie Taylor, is dead

Former People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kingston and Port Royal and State Minister, Marjorie Taylor, has died.

She passed away on Saturday after an extended period of illness.

Her last public appointment was as the country’s first Ambassador for Children, which preceded the establishment of the Office of the Children’s Advocate.

For quite some time she worked closely with former Prime Minister, Michael Manley, and became the Councillor for the Norman Gardens Division of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

Taylor, who also served in the Senate, later succeeded Manley as MP for Eastern Kingston and Port Royal.

The PNP has paid tribute to her, describing Taylor as having given outstanding service to her community.

She was also said to have been passionate about the well-being of Jamaicans in general.
