Montserrat’s ‘Arrow’ to be honoured as a national hero

BRADES, Montserrat (CMC) — The late Calypsonian Alphonsus “Arrow” Cassell will head the list of people who will be awarded at the third annual National Honours and Awards Ceremony here next week Wednesday.

Cassell, also known as “The Mighty Arrow”, will be bestowed with the Order of National Hero for his “outstanding contribution to culture in the field of calypso and especially his unparalleled international achievement in the genre of Soca. His song Hot-Hot-Hot has been sung in many languages worldwide”.

According to a statement from the Office of the Premier, the awards are to honour Montserratians who have selflessly contributed and committed to the development and advancement of Montserrat.

“The National Honours and awards were created to foster patriotism and national pride in Montserrat.”

The Order of Merit will be awarded to Verna West and Margaret Elwin .

The Order of Distinction will be awarded to Jewelline Roberts-Riley, Emmanuel Galloway , Cedric Osborne, and Cedric Osborne .

The Order of Excellence will be awarded to DRV Franklyn Edwards and P Austin Bramble.
