Simpson Miller Silent On Whether She Will Remain As PNP President

Portia Simpson Miller, President of the opposition People’s National Party (PNP), is refusing to say whether she will be stepping down as party President.

Simpson-Miller responded on Thursday to members of  the media about her political future, following the PNP’s defeat in the February 25 general election.

Over the last two weeks there have been mounting calls from in and outside the PNP that Mrs. Simpson-Miller and other senior members of  the Party should walk away and allow for rebuilding.

Addressing reporters, following Thursday’s official swearing-in ceremony for Members of  Parliament and Senators, the PNP President was non-committal on whether she intended to step aside.

“I am not going to respond to that . I know who Portia is and I know the contribution of Portia to the People’s National Party, from I joined the party until now,” she declared.

She also had a warning from Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

“Whatever he does in the interest of the Jamaican people, then he will certainly get our cooperation, But if he moves away to anything that is not in the interest of all Jamaicans, then you will hear my voice,” she said.
