New port system to save time, money in clearing cargo

The Port Community System is a single-point contact that will manage all the trade logistics business processes.

Jamaicans are to spend less time and money clearing barrels and other cargo at the various ports with the newly introduced Port Community System (PCS).

The PCS is a single-point contact that will manage all the trade logistics business processes.

Speaking with The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre following the launch of Jamaica’s PCS, this morning, Director of the project, Dwain Powell said the initiative aims to improve the business process at the ports.

“We’re bringing best practices to Jamaica,” he said, noting that the system will better integrate all of the stakeholders in clearing cargo.

Powell also said as a result of the smoother process the PCS will lead to a reduction of the net cost of doing business.
