Two months ahead of Jamaica’s largest reggae festival, Reggae Sumfest, organisers, Summerfest Productions, have named a new chairman, Godfrey Dyer.

Dyer, one of the founding members of the festival, took over from Robert Russell, who held the position for the last 10 years.

Second stint

This is Dyer’s second stint as chairman of the board which comprises eight directors and 20 shareholders.

Commenting on the change in leadership, Dyer, also a tourism consultant, told The Gleaner recently that his priority was to ensure that Reggae Sumfest continues to be the festival of choice.

He reconfirmed the commitment of his team, pointing out that Reggae Sumfest has been the high point of the summer since its inception in 1993.

“Each year the team strives for growth and development to ensure the entertainment value of this event is expanded, even as we make a positive impact on the tourism sector,” he said.

Dyer’s intentions are in sync with the illustrious career he has had in tourism, one that spans 35 years, having served as president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, director of the Jamaica TouristBoard, chairman of the Tourism Enhancement Fund, and owner and managing director of the Wexford Court Hotel from 1977-2006, when he sold the property.
