Three murders in August Town on New Year’s Day!

August Town in Eastern St Andrew, which celebrated the hard work and success of completing the calendar year 2016 without recording a single murder

, in contrast to its traditional homicide data, and struggled to limit murders there over the two succeeding years, has literally gone over the rails in a single day of 2019.

All of three murders were recorded in the volatile community on New Year’s Day.

First there was the killing of 34-year-old Omar Johnson of Peyton Place in the community.

In what is believed to have been the first reported murder for 2019, the construction worker was reportedly walking along a roadway at about 8:55 a.m., when he was attacked by men and seriously injured.

The police said Johnson was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

About 7:20 p.m. on the same date, the bodies of two men were found with gunshot wounds on the August Town main road, the police reported.

Indications are that residents reported hearing gunfire in the area and the police were alerted.

A search was carried out on the August Town main road and the bodies of the two men were found.

Up to late on Tuesday night, the police did not disclose the identities of the latter two deceased men.
