The Beenie Man Foundation lent a helping hand to erecting a sign in the Shrewsbury District of Cotterwood, St Elizabeth which has been without any form of signage that provides directions to visitors to the community.
The sign was unveiled on Monday, March 22 in a ribbon cutting ceremony, attended only by the dancehall star, his daughter Xia and his son Mosiah Davis (who runs the Beenie Man Foundation).
“My mother and grandmother are originally from the community and I plan on visiting the area more often to get more connected to my family,” Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, said.
His mother, Lilieth ‘Mama Lilieth’ Sewell passed away last September. She along with her mother (Beenie Man’s grandmother) are buried on family plots within the community.
Beenie Man explained, “I saw the need for a sign because there is no official signage or anything directing persons to the community.”
The dancehall artiste is proud of his family origins and he plans to assist persons within the community in achieving their goals.
Known for songs such as ‘World Dance’, ‘Girls Dem Sugar’ and ‘King of the Dancehall’, Beenie Man recently released ‘Fun in the Sun’ which features Dre Island and Popcaan.
