Cops make major gun seizure at wharf in St James

Police say they have made a major gun bust at the wharf in St James.

Police are reporting that 19 firearms, including six high powered rifles, and just over 470 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized following an operation at the facility.

Full details of the operation are still not clear but police in a release said there is now a major multi-agency investigation underway as the police seek to identify the persons responsible.

More information will follow.

The find comes a little over a year after C-TOC officials seized 20 firearms and over 700 rounds of ammunition at a terminal in Kingston.

That seizure was made on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, about 10:00 am, during a joint operation with the Contraband Enforcement Team of Jamaica Customs, the police high command had said in a release.

The cache of weapons, then, included four high-powered rifles, one sub-machine gun, nine pistols, six revolvers and 791 assorted rounds of ammunition.

That seizure came five months after 36 illegal weapons and 641 rounds of ammunition, multiple magazines and a silencer were confiscated at the wharves during a two-day operation.
