COVID-19: Mobile testing units now operational

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) mobile testing units, which will increase the capabilities of the Ministry of Health and Wellness to do field testing, are now operational.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the units are fully equipped with the protective gear to be worn by the healthcare workers, who will be on board.

“The deployment of these units means our testing capacity will be expanded,” said Holness in a social media post on Monday.

It is understood that the first unit was sent to the quarantined community of Cornpiece in Clarendon.

It is one of five that will be used across the island.

On Monday, Jamaica recorded one new case of COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases in the island to 73. There have been four deaths and 19 recoveries who have been released from the hospital.
