DANCEHALL choreographer-turned-deejay Ding Dong has been on a musical high over the past year. He has released songs, including Syvah, Shampoo, and his most recent effort Low Mi. All with accompanying dances.

On Monday, J Wray and Nephew Limited made its association with artistes official by making him brand ambassador for Stag Beer. The event was held at Wray and Nephew’s New Kingston office.

Stag Beer is a Trinidadian product distributed by J Wray and Nephew. The company’s director of marketing, Gary Dixon, said the product targets a mass market.

“We are targeting anyone who is seeking an alternative. This is a refreshing beer alternative, and we decided to bring one of the Caribbean’s best offerings. We wanted to have a rounded portfolio because we are recognised as the people’s choice when it comes to rum”, Dixon told the Jamaica Observer.

Asked why Ding Dong was chosen to be the face of the product in Jamaica, Dixon said: “Ding Dong is in that middle ground. His music is real fun, and this brand is more about light-hearted fun. He is a star and his dancing is what’s popular in dancehall at present.”

Ding Dong (real name Kemar Ottey) was happy with the association.

“This is a blessed opportunity. Big up to Wray and Nephew because they see the value that we can offer to their product. It’s a blessing to have a company within the Corporate Area to really look at a dancer to be a brand ambassador,” he said.

He said the association will open the doors for other dancers.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about the gates that this will open for other dancers who have been working so hard over the years. The exposure you get within the corporate circles is way more than any money you can getâ” he added.

Ding Dong, leader of the Nannyville-based Ravers Clavers dance crew, emerged on the musical radar in 2006 with the chart-topping single Bad Man Forward, Bad Man Pull Up. He followed up with hits including Holiday featuring singer Chevaughn, Nuh Linga, Skip to Ma Lu (featuring Serani), Ready to Party featuring Voice Mail and Man a Gallis.
