Denham Town residents protest gun violence in community

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Scores of residents Tuesday, April 8 staged a series of protest in Denham Town calling for an end to the deadly feud between warring factions in the Western Kingston community.

“We tired of the violence, we tired of the war,” said a Denham Town mother of three.

She was among a large group of placard-bearing protestors who marched through the streets Tuesday under the watchful gaze of police and soldiers maintaining a presence in the area.

Yesterday as the angry residents protested several gunshot victims some on crutches joined the group.

“We fed up of the war we want an end to this violence, “said one man who wore a cast on his leg.

Meanwhile Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor who heads the division said he was encouraged that residents were coming out to let their concerns be heard and warned that the police would continue to monitor the area.
