Four foreigners among 36 people arrested for stealing electricity

ST JAMES, Montego Bay — Four foreigners were among 36 people arrested during a massive anti-theft drive carried out by electricity suppliers Jamaica Public Service (JPS) in St James between Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17.

Most of the arrests were made on the first day of the operations which were conducted in sections of Lilliput, Norwood, and Whitehouse in the western parish.

The four foreigners were held Friday in Lilliput, where most of the arrests were made.

Reliable sources say that the four are citizens of the Dominican Republic, working in Jamaica and living in rented premises in the St James community.

However, Marvin Campbell, JPS parish manager for St James and Trelawny said that he could not confirm the men’s country of origin.

More information later.
