ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Central St Catherine Member of Parliament Olivia “Babsy” Grange has called on JLP supporters to stand in solidarity with the mothers who lost their babies in the recent bacterial infection outbreak that claimed the lives of 19 babies.

Grange, who was speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) rally now under way in Munamar Square, Spanish Town, St Catherine, said: “If the baby is one month old, if the baby in the belly is three months – is a baby”.

Grange was referring to a statement made by Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson during the saga, which he later clarified.

“We (as women), we know how it feel and tonight we are showing solidarity to those mother,” Grange continued.

“We want to say tonight, never again will that be allowed to happen,” she charged.

“[Be] assured when the Labour Party is returned to power that will never be allowed to happen.”

Meanwhile, the rally reached fever pitch when Opposition Leader Andrew Holness arrived at the venue.

Hundreds of supporters are now gathered, waiting patiently for Holness to give his main address.
