Jamaica, T&T talks to begin today

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trinidad and Tobago’s Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran and a delegation are scheduled to arrive in Kingston today, for a two-day visit to meet with Foreign Affairs Minister AJ Nicholson to discuss issues concerning the free movement of Jamaicans into Trinidad and Tobago.

The T&T minister accepted an invitation to meet with Minister Nicholson last week following an outcry in Jamaica about the refusal of entry of 13 Jamaicans recently.
Over the two days, both parties are expected to discuss hassle-free travel as stipulated in the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, implications of the CCJ Ruling in the Shanique Myrie Case, treatment of Jamaicans by immigration officials, conditions under which Jamaicans are accommodated, access to consular representation, the appeals process, and the movement of Jamaican skilled nationals.
