JLP’s Dunn confident of SE St Mary in magisterial recount

The JLP’s Dr Norman Dunn is confident that he will emerge the Member of Parliament for the South Eastern St Mary constituency at the conclusion of a magisterial recount that starts in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Alexander Williams, who is representing Dunn, expressed confidence of a victory during an interview with Loop News on Tuesday.

“That’s what I expect,” Williams said in reference to a reversal of fate for Dunn. “I fully expect the restoring of Dr Dunn to his hard-fought win in the constituency.”

Dunn emerged victorious over the PNP’s Dr Winston Green Thursday night following the preliminary count of ballots cast earlier in the day.

He was announced the winner by 127 votes.

But the final count on Saturday saw the victory reversed and Green declared the winner by nine votes, giving the JLP a one-seat lead of 32 to the PNP’s 31.

On Tuesday, attorney Williams told Loop News that he will be challenging 20 ballots and that the magisterial count process could take up to three days.

The count is to take place at the RM court on Sutton Street in downtown Kingston.
