Massive gun shipment seized in Kingston

A joint-initiative by the security forces recorded major success in the fight against the illegal gun trade with the seizure of three firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition at a warehouse in Newport West, Kingston on Tuesday, April 5.

Detectives from the Guns for Trade Task Force (G4T) – which comprises of members Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) and Narcotics Division – along with the Jamaica Customs Department’s Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) have been credited with the seizure.

Reports are that since December 2015, both entities had commenced investigations into a major gun smuggling operation between Jamaica and the United States.

As a part of the investigation strategic operations were conducted and the search of a container revealed:

•             One Bushmaster rifle

•             One Comanche 357 revolver

•             One Para- Ordinance .45 pistol

•             Four hundred and sixty-seven .45 cartridges

•             One hundred .44 cartridges,

•             One hundred and ninety-seven 5.56 cartridges

•             Forty .380 cartridges

•             Twenty-five 12 gauge cartridges

•             Thirty-eight .357 cartridges

•             Two M16 magazines

•             Five 9mm magazines one of which is extended

•             One Tactical Smoke Bomb and

•             One Firearm cleaning accessory.

The items have since been removed to the Government Forensic Laboratory for the requisite testing and analysis.

One man was reportedly arrested in connection with the seizure.
