An opposition senator has expressed concern about the lifting of the quarantine in Bull Bay, St. Andrew, which ends at midnight Friday.
Senator Donna Scott Mottley noted Friday in the Senate that there have been reports of people showing no symptoms after the 14-day quarantine period, but who are carrying the virus.
She argued that while the communities of Seven and Eight Miles were quarantined for two week, the members have not been tested individually to detect whether they are carriers of the virus, who may simply be asymptomatic.
She called for widespread testing of residents of the community before the measure is lifted, pointing out that if the government does not investigate further, “all the work we would have done would have just been totally in vein and we cannot afford that.”
Kamina Johnson Smith, Leader of Government Business in the Senate, said she would relay the concern to the health authorities.
Bull Bay was placed under quarantine on March 13.
The first person to test positive for the virus in Jamaica stayed in the community, and several confirmed coronavirus cases have subsequently been linked to her.
