Police corporal gets nine-year sentence for possession of AK-47 rifle 

A police corporal who was arrested and charged with breaches of the Firearms Act in 2018, has been sentenced to a combined 17 years in prison.

Corporal Devon Miller was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment on the charge of possession of an AK-47 rifle, six years for the possession of an illegal Taurus 9mm pistol, and two years for the possession of 30 assorted rounds of ammunition.

Miller was arrested on October 2, 2018, on Myers Lane, Newlands in St Catherine.

It was reported that police personnel attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations (C-TOC) Branch nabbed Miller during a snap raid at about 8 pm in the community. An AK-47 rifle, a Taurus 9mm pistol, fifteen 7.62 rounds of ammunition and fifteen 9mm rounds of ammunition were found in a motorcar that he was driving.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
