Policeman accused of lying in Al Miller trial

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Deputy Superintendent of Police in the attempting to pervert the course of justice trial of Reverend Al Miller was this morning accused of lying and being evasive on the witness stand.

However, the cop, Gary Chambers, denied each suggestion.

Queen’s Counsel Jacqueline Samuel-Brown took Chambers to task over the fact that he had testified in court that he and colleagues had signalled by hand Al Miller to stop during an operation, but failed to put it in his statement.

But Chambers insisted that he has been nothing but truthful. “I spoke the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” he said at one point. Chambers was recalled to be further cross-examined.

Another police officer is also being called to be further examined. However, he is said to be unwell. The case is to continue in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on November 27 for an update on that officer’s condition.
