Dancehall entertainer Mavado will know today if his assault and malicious destruction of property conviction will be overturned.

The Court of Appeal heard legal arguments this week and reserved judgment to today.

Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, was found guilty in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court last May.

He was sentenced to pay a fine of $80,000 or six months in prison on the assault charge, and $20,000 or six months on the charge of destruction of property.

The charges against Mavado stemmed from an incident on July 22, 2011 when he and members of his entourage attacked a St James man, Henry Cunningham and his son, Oshane, in what was described as a case of road rage.

During the altercation, the father and son sustained multiple injuries and the vehicle in which they were travelling was damaged.
