Traffic changes for Sir Howard’s State Funeral Friday

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Motorists are being advised that there will be traffic changes in sections of the city on Friday (August 8) to facilitate the State Funeral of the former Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke.

Sir Howard died on Friday, July 11 at the age of 98. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston commencing at 10:00 am and interment follows at National Heroes Park.

Road closures, limited access and traffic diversions will be in effect for the funeral service and burial.

South Camp Road between Merrion Road in front of the Traffic Court and East Queen Street, and all roads leading on, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Only attendees to the funeral will be allowed access.

North Street between South Camp Road and Duke Street will also be closed to vehicular traffic.

In addition East Street between Charles Street and South Heroes Circle and all connecting roads will be closed to the motoring public.

Pedestrians will have limited access to business facilities in the cordoned-off areas.

Following the service, the funeral procession will travel along North Street up East Street and enter Heroes Park using the South Gate. Marescaux Road between North Heroes Circle, Connolly Avenue and Duke Street at South Heroes Circle and all roads leading on will be closed to vehicular traffic prior to the procession from the church to Heroes Park.
