Up to press time last night, the West Kingston police reported that they could ‘feel’ the tension in the area following Saturday night’s shooting of Leighton ‘Livity’ Coke, the brother of imprisoned gangster, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
“The area is quiet as we speak, but we can feel the tension. [There is] the whispering by citizens … when you work in the area for a while you can know when the area is tense,” Commander for West Kingston Superintendent Howard Chambers told THE STAR last night.
Up to late last night, there were no reports of flare-ups in the area, but Chambers said a strong police presence will remain in Denham Town and Tivoli Gardens today.
He said they will continue to monitor the situation, and an assessment will be done today to determine the way forward.
Chambers added that the west Kingston police are being assisted by members of the Mobile Reserve, and the Jamaica Defence Force.
Reports are that ‘Livity’ and a female companion were shot multiple times while travelling along the Hellshire main road in St Catherine. They were reported to be in a stable condition.
There have been no arrests, and a motive is yet to be established for the shooting.
