12 COVID-19 deaths recorded amid 161 new cases 

Jamaica recorded 161 new COVID-19 cases over 24 hours up to Tuesday afternoon, according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Twelve COVID-19 deaths that occurred from September 2021 to January 31, 2021, were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the overall coronavirus death toll in Jamaica to 2,675.

Of note, 11 of the deaths occurred from January 9 to January 31.

A 94-year-old female from St Elizabeth is among the latest recorded COVID fatalities.

There were 137 recoveries on the day, bringing that tally to 70,340.

The newly confirmed COVID-19 cases brought the total number on record for the island to 124,967.

Notably, the island recorded a 21.6 per cent positivity rate based on the samples that were tested on Tuesday.

Of the newly confirmed cases, 91 are females and 70 are males, with ages ranging from four months to 95 years.

The case count was made up of St Catherine (45), Kingston and St Andrew (31), Clarendon (19), Manchester (16), St Mary (13), Westmoreland (nine), St James (nine), St Ann (seven), Hanover (five), St Thomas (two), Portland (two), Trelawny (two), and St Elizabeth (one).

There are 95 moderately ill patients, 55 severely ill patients and 20 critically ill patients among 6,668 active cases now under observation in Jamaica.

A total of 478 patients are now hospitalised locally.
