28-year-old man among six COVID deaths; 527 new cases 


Jamaica’s daily COVID-19 infections continue to decline, with 527 new COVID-19 cases over 24 hours up to Tuesday afternoon.

Six COVID-19 deaths that occurred from August 2021 to January 2022, were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the overall corona virus death toll in Jamaica to 2,615.

A 28-year-old man from Kingston and St Andrew is among the latest recorded COVID fatalities.

The separate deaths of 14 COVID-19 patients are under investigation by health authorities.

There were 198 recoveries on the day, bringing that tally to 68,749.

The newly confirmed COVID-19 cases brought the total number on record for the island to 121,963.

Notably, the island recorded a 35.7 per cent positivity rate based on the samples that were tested on Tuesday.

Of the newly confirmed cases, 301 are females, 225 are males, while the sex of one person is under investigation.

The ages of all the COVID-positive individuals over the one-day period range from one day to 98 years.

The case count was made up of Kingston and St Andrew (250), St Catherine (106), Clarendon (43), St James (33), St Thomas (24), Westmoreland (14), St Mary (14), Manchester (13), Portland (11), St Ann (10), Trelawny (six), St Elizabeth (two), and Hanover (one).

There are 129 moderately ill patients, 51 severely ill patients and 25 critically ill patients among 11,814 active cases now under observation in Jamaica.

A total of 559 patients are now hospitalized locally.

Among those isolated in public hospitals, the Health Ministry said 359 people are unvaccinated, one is partially vaccinated, and 29 people are fully vaccinated.

The ministry said “the COVID-19 vaccination status is available for 391 patients or 56 per cent of the 698 patients who were isolated for COVID-19 (confirmed or suspected) in public hospitals on January 25.”
