Another Clarendon cop dies suddenly; fifth in last nine months

Just a day after the funeral service of a female sergeant, the Clarendon Police Division is mourning the sudden passing of another member.

On Thursday, April 22, the day another colleague from the parish was buried after a sudden death, Corporal Michael Mitchell complained of not feeling well, and was taken to hospital, where he died on Friday, April 23.

Mitchell, a 26-year veteran of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), is the fifth police officer from the Clarendon division to have died suddenly within the last nine months.

Corporal Duwayne Wright, 42, died in July 2020; Woman Corporal Angela Watt-Coleman, 54, and Detective Corporal Robert Webster, 46, died in September 2020; and Woman Sergeant Tameicha Powell, 45, died in March 2021. all were active members of the JCF.

The Jamaica Police Federation has extended condolences to the division in a press release in which it described Mitchell as a “A jovial, dedicated, hardworking and committed police officer who had the admiration and trust of his colleagues, friends and community members in the Clarendon division.”The federation added that “as a gentle giant, he gave service above self and added value to our organisation. He will be sadly missed.”
