KINGSTON, Jamaica — Bunny from the veteran duo Bunny and Scully is dead. The singer, whose given name is Arthur Robinson, died in University Hospital of the West Indies in St Andrew on Tuesday night. He was 81 years old.
According to stepson, Marlon Ferguson, the singer was admitted in hospital last Thursday.
“He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (form of bone marrow cancer) since 2012,” said Ferguson.
Ferguson remembers his stepfather, who sold peanuts, as a strict but very loving person. “He loved singing and showing off his fancy foot works when dancing,” he said.
Along with lifelong friend, Noel “Scully” Simms, Robinson was part of the vocal duo Bunny and Scully.
They were a Rhythm And Blues-inspired act, which emerged from Trench Town and first competed in the Vere Johns Opportunity Hour talent contest in 1951.
Initially known as Simms and Robinson, they were the first artistes from Trench Town to record.
In 2004, Robinson and Simms were awarded the Badge of Honour by the Jamaican government for their contribution to the country’s music. Simms died in February.
Robinson is survived by his wife Joyce and 14 children.
