Organisers of Best of the Best concert are confirming that embattled deejay Capleton is still booked for the event.
The annual show, now in its 12th year, takes place in Miami, Florida, on May 27. Concert co-producer Steve “Jabba” Beckford said Capleton’s consistent high-energy performances made it a no-brainer to include him in the line-up.
“If we could put him on the show every year we would, because he guarantees you a solid and entertaining performance — which is what the patrons want,” Beckford said. “So this year we had the opportunity to bring him back and we are happy that despite all that has taken place, we give thanks that our brother is free and able to do what he loves.”
This will be Capleton’s first live performance since being granted bail on Monday in the sum of $250,000 in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half-Way-Tree. The deejay, given name Clifton Bailey, spent last weekend in lock-up at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station after being arrested and charged with rape.
He last appeared on the Best of the Best stage in 2015. In a recent interview with Atlanta-based disc jock Jah Prince on Sunsplash Mix, the “Fyah Man” said the concert is one that he looks forward to.
“People love our message; they love the music, they love the vibe, they love the fire and the energy. We’re inviting fans to come out in dem tens and thousands and come fulljoy the energy,” he said. “I always tell the kings to bring dem queens and leave the machine,” Capleton said.
Other acts scheduled to perform include Mavado, Aidonia, Richie Stephens, Ding Dong, Shenseea, Masicka, Hood Celebrity, Ghost and soca acts Bunji Garlin, Fayann Lyons and Kerwin Du Bois.
Earlier this week, Reggae Sumfest principal Joe Bogdanovich confirmed that Capleton is still on for his July 21 performance.
Capleton is known for tracks like That Day Will Come, Jah Jah City, Slew Dem and Raggy Road.
