Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is said to be considering visiting Jamaica on the sidelines of his trip to New
York late next month to attend a U.N. General Assembly session.
Abe is aiming to strengthen cooperation with Jamaica on U.N. Security Council reform.
Jamaica’s ambassador to the United Nations currently serves as chair of intergovernmental negotiations on U.N. reforms.
Sources say Abe hopes that enhanced ties with Jamaica will help Japan win support from Caribbean Community (CARICOM) members on reforming the U.N. Security Council.
