KINGSTON, Jamaica — The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Young Jamaica, has chided People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) President Alrick Campbell for what it says is a “desperate and attention-seeking” move by him to call for the resignation of party leader Andrew Holness.

The young affiliate arm of the JLP in a release issued Friday said, “Campbell is merely seeking to restore the PNPYO’s credibility and relevance by calling for the resignation of Opposition Leader Andrew Holness”.

The group said it is challenging Campbell to focus on issues that affect the country’s youth population.

“What we need is a contest of ideas, not attempts to score cheap shots. His efforts are better utilised finding solutions to the chronic levels of youth unemployment, the record levels of young people hoping to migrate and the dismal performance of Lisa Hanna,” Chamberlain said.

The organisation insisted that Campbell is “jumping on a convenient bandwagon to gain national attention, particularly one that is entirely without merit”.

“His comments are unfortunate and show a certain level of desperation. Alrick should concentrate his efforts on figuring out how to properly ensure the now defunct PNPYO becomes a vibrant youth movement; attacking Andrew Holness is not the way to do that,” he said.

“We’re saying to Alrick, leave labour party business to labourites.”

“Andrew Holness isn’t going anywhere. Campbell needs to extend his mind to finding workable solutions to the challenges facing our young people,” added Chamberlain.
