Police say probe launched into use of unapproved sex education material by JFJ

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Police have launched investigations into the reported use of unapproved sex material in children’s home with a view to identify possible breaches of the Acts protecting children.

The Police High Command was responding to a letter published in the OBSERVER ONLINE regarding the introduction of sexual material to children’s homes by human rights group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ).

Said the police: The Police High Command has taken note of a letter to the editor published in the online version of the Jamaica Observer on Friday June 27, 2014 titled: Whither JFJ, where is the Police?

In the letter, the writer asks what the Police have been doing in terms of investigations into the recent allegations of unapproved sexual material being taught in some privately owned children’s homes.

The Police High Command is therefore advising members of the public that an investigation has been launched into the matter but it remains at a sensitive stage and given the nature of the allegations not much can be said at this time. The Police can also confirm that they are looking into breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act and the Offences Against the Person’s Act.
