Head of the St James police, Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, said the police had warned against Jamaica Labour party supporters having a motorcade through the troubled community of Flanker in St James.
One man was shot dead and three other persons injured after a bus carrying JLP supporters was shot up in the community on Tuesday, Nomination Day..
McGregor hinted that, if the political organisers had heeded his warning, then the loss of life and injuries may have been avoided.
In a release to the media through the Constabulary Communications Unit, McGregor urged political organisers to heed the warnings of the police.
“We are appealing to organisers and party officials to heed all instructions and warnings given in the future,” McGregor said.
He also pointed out that no permission was given for the ill-fated motorcade through Flanker.
“In fact, there were explicit warnings against it,” he said.
Tensions in the hotbed community has been at a high level in the aftermath of the murders of two men from the community and the injury of three other persons at a JLP mass rally in Sam Sharpe Square in the parish on Sunday.
There has been a gang feud raging in the community for several weeks between the Sparta Gang and the Rebel Gang.
The man who was killed during the motorcade has not yet been identified.
