Cuba’s iconic revolutionary leader Fidel Castro died Friday night, aged 90. Castro was one of the world’s longest-serving leaders and modern history’s most singular character.
The guerrilla revolutionary and communist idol was a holdout against history who turned tiny Cuba into a thorn in the paw of the mighty capitalist United States.
In keeping with Castro’s wish, his body was cremated early yesterday.
His ashes will be buried in the historic south-eastern city of Santiago on December 4 after a four-day procession through the country, the Cuban Government announced yesterday as it decreed nine days of mourning.
